| Final Exam Schedule for 9th-11th |
Grade 9 students may be allowed one spring final exam exemption; two spring final exam exemptions may be allowed for eligible 10th and 11th graders. Eligible students are those with no more than three (3) absences in any one course for the duration of the semester. In addition, eligible students must have an 85 or higher semester average in the specific course(s) where the final exam exemption is applied. Students are expected to be in attendance for all exams even if they are exempt. Missing a final exam will result in a zero on the report card until the final exam is made up. The make-up period is June 5 - 12, 2025. After that date the zero is final. If a student has exempted an exam and is absent, the absence could cause the students to lose exemption status and/or could cause an NG resulting in a loss of credit.
First Lunch consists of students in the M building and the G building Second Lunch consists of students in the A and V Building |

| HISD Advocacy: There are currently no more budget workshops scheduled by the Board of Managers. However, given the new school funding legislation, another workshop is needed before the Board votes on the 2025-26 budget. State Advocacy: The Senate and House have reached a compromise on HB2. The legislation raises teacher and staff pay, expands special education services, increases school safety resources, and provides additional funding for insurance, utilities, and other essential operations. The increase in the basic allotment is lower than many public education advocates had hoped. HB 4, which would move Texas towards a new accountability system less dependent on STAAR testing, is still pending. Follow Raise Your Hand Texas for more information. |

| College Center & FAFSA/TAFSA = 100% |
Financial Aid: there is still time to submit FAFSAor TASFA(non-citizens). These forms are crucial as they help colleges determine the distribution of financial aid based on need or merit. We strongly encourage all students to submit their FAFSA or TASFA in case they decide to attend a community college, university, or trade school. Please visit the College Center (M110) for help. Schoolinks: seniors need to make sure Schoolinks is updated. We need to see ”enrolling” next to the college decision. Final transcripts are sent through Schoolinks after graduation. Please upload ALL college acceptances (screenshot or letter stating you were admitted) and awards (how much money they offered). Decision Day: will be held on May 30th at 10:30am. An invite will be sent to all seniors. To attend Decision Day, students need Schoolinks updated and FAFSA or TASFA submitted. We can’t wait to celebrate ALL decisions: four-year colleges, two-year community colleges, trade school and military! |

| Congrats to Our Champion Flag Football Team! |
What happens when you take student-athletes from volleyball, soccer, softball, track, and basketball (and a Redcoat!) and throw them onto a football field with flags on their waist? Answer: Champions. This past Saturday morning, our Heights High School Flag Football team conquered Westbury by a score of 19-6 to clinch the HISD Flag Football championship. The team, formed by Coaches Idlebird and Vizcarra halfway through the spring semester, bested schools such as Lamar, Austin, and Scarborough on their phenomenal title run. After a dominant 3-1 regular season group play performance, the Bulldogs only had two teams left standing in their path to glory: Wheatley and Westbury. After the Dogs made easy work of Wheatley, they persevered through a challenging first half and dominated the rest of the game, scoring 19 unanswered points. The game was highlighted by stellar performances from sophomores Emma Syphard and Victoria Cruz. Cruz’s speed and agility on offense was enough to shake off the Husky defenders and rack up yardage effortlessly. Syphard’s quick reflexes and versatility on both sides of the ball helped her earn the honor of the game’s Most Valuable Player. In their inaugural season, the Heights Girls Flag Football team was crowned champions of HISD. But what’s next? With many seniors on the squad, there’ll need to be a revamping of the team, but with confidence and leadership from this year’s title, finding replacements won’t be so hard. A big thank you goes out to Coach Idlebird and Coach Vizcarra for making this dream come true for my classmates, and also to the football players who sacrificed and offered their time to help the team in practice and in game. Thank you all for inviting me. Just like the Texans’ branding: They’re Next. by Mateo Aguirre
