Hello Bulldog Families,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year!  I hope you are as excited about the school year as I am.  The PTO is already working diligently to support the students, teachers, and staff at Heights High School.  We are proud to be an A Rated campus and plan to continue to foster and support Heights and its abundant programs and activities. 

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as your PTO President. My name is LaTrice Ferguson.  I currently have two Bulldogs, a sophomore and a junior, and a 7th grader who is eager to have her turn.  My boys and family have had a wonderful educational experience and they are fully vested as members of the band, cross country, IB program, soccer and countless other activities.  Your Bulldog will definitely find their niche here at Heights.

This year is a special year as it marks the school’s 100th year in the current building.  We plan to celebrate this monumental year with alumni, staff and students. Be on the lookout for our new celebratory yard sign that will be an exclusive for this historical year. We are thrilled to play a part in helping Heights become the top rated comprehensive high school in HISD!

2024-2025  was a successful year for our PTO.  We increased our membership, celebrated our teachers and staff through appreciation events and grants, supported senior activities, provided scholarships to fifteen graduating seniors, funds for activities like Go Texan Day and Special Olympics, and supported multiple clubs/sporting needs.  We also raised a record amount of money at our annual Bulldog Bash fundraiser. We plan to top that amount this year.

There are a few things we need to accomplish our goals.  We need volunteers and donations. Please consider lending your time, talents, and/or funds to the PTO.  Here are some upcoming opportunities:

• Volunteer at the PTO store during lunch.  It is a busy job, but a great opportunity to see the pulse of Heights during lunch!  If you are interested in volunteering at the store, please sign up here.  

• Join the PTO!  We want to hear from you.  Please join the PTO and come to meetings to let us hear your thoughts.  Memberships are $5 for teachers/staff and $25 to $500 for parents/community members, with extra amounts paid over the basic membership going to support the PTO’s endeavors. 

Another thing that the PTO does is work to foster community.  To stay connected and be aware of PTO opportunities, here’s another reminder to subscribe to our newsletter.  We’re on social media too!  We are most active on Facebook, but we are also on Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp.  There is a Facebook group for the Class of 2026, Class of 2027, Class of 2028 and Class of 2029 (please answer the questions in order to be accepted into the group!).  There is also information on our website at Heightspto.org.

Finally, thank you to all the staff of Heights High School for choosing to be at Heights and for making a difference every day for our students.  We hope you know how much you are appreciated.

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2025-26! Espero que estén tan entusiasmados con este año escolar como lo estoy yo. El PTO ya está trabajando a toda velocidad para apoyar a los estudiantes, maestros y personal de Heights High School. Estamos muy orgullosos de haber recibido una calificación de A, y tenemos planes de continuar apoyando los diversos  programas y actividades en Heights.

Quisiera aprovechar esta oportunidad para presentarme como la presidenta del PTO. Mi nombre es LaTrice Ferguson y actualmente tengo dos Bulldogs, uno en grado 10 y otro en grado 11 y una en 7mo grado que está impaciente por tener su turno. Mi familia ha tenido una experiencia educacional maravillosa en Heights y estamos completamente dedicados a la escuela como miembros de la banda, cross country, el programa IB, fútbol y muchas otras actividades. Su Bulldog pronto encontrará su lugar en Heights. 

Este año es muy especial ya que se cumplen 100 años de Heights en su ubicación actual. Estamos planeando celebrar esta fecha tan importante con nuestros graduados, empleados y estudiantes. Este año tendremos carteles de jardin exclusivos para celebrar este aniversario histórico. Estamos encantados de tener un rol en ayudar a Heights a convertirse en una de las mejores escuelas de educación integral en HISD.

2024-2025 fue un año exitoso para nuestro PTO.  Aumentamos nuestra membresía, celebramos a nuestros maestros y personal a través de eventos de agradecimiento y subvenciones, apoyamos actividades para personas mayores, brindamos becas a quince graduandos, proporcionamos fondos para actividades como el Día Go Texan y las olimpiadas especiales y apoyamos a varios clubes y deportes. También recaudamos un monto récord durante nuestra recaudación de fondos anual, Bulldog Bash, el cual queremos romper nuevamente este año. 

Para poder alcanzar estos objetivos necesitamos de su colaboración. Necesitamos voluntarios y donaciones. Considere donar su tiempo, talentos y/o fondos al PTO. Estas son algunas de las próximas oportunidades:

• Sea voluntario en la tienda del PTO durante el almuerzo. Es un trabajo muy ocupado, ¡pero es una gran oportunidad para ver el pulso de Heights durante el almuerzo! Si está interesado en ser voluntario en la tienda, regístrese aquí.
• ¡Únase al PTO! Queremos escuchar de ti. Únase al PTO y venga a las reuniones para dejarnos escuchar sus opiniones. Las membresías cuestan $5 para maestros/personal y entre $25 y $500 para padres/miembros de la comunidad. Fondos por encima del costo de la membresia basica son dedicados a apoyar los esfuerzos del PTO.

Otra cosa que hace el PTO es trabajar para fomentar la comunidad. Para mantenerse conectado y estar al tanto de las oportunidades de PTO, por favor suscribase a nuestro boletín. ¡Estamos en las redes sociales también! Somos más activos en Facebook, pero también estamos en Twitter, Instagram y WhatsApp para nuestros hispanohablantes. Hay un grupo de Facebook para  la Clase de 2025, la Clase de 2026,  la Clase de 2027 y Clase de 2028 (¡responda las preguntas para ser aceptado en el grupo!). Finalmente, gracias a todo el personal de Heights High School por elegir estar en Heights y por marcar la diferencia cada día para nuestros estudiantes. Esperamos que sepan cuánto los apreciamos.

This year marks a monumental year for Heights High School. This is our 100th year in the building and we plan to celebrate all year!  Support the class of 2027 and order your exclusive yard sign designed by Heights teacher, Mr. Pruneda. Signs are $20. Venmo or Zelle to preorder and include your address and number so we can arrange delivery.

The TACRAO College Fair with representation from more than 70 colleges will be on campus October 6th. Juniors and Seniors will be taken in shifts from 1–3 p.m. in the Practice Gym. 

Working the school store during lunch is a great way to get involved and see the students in action! Please complete your VIPS registration and sign-up for volunteer shifts.

We invite all parents, family, guardians, teachers and students to join the Heights High School Parent Teacher Organization - HHS PTO. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join!

HHS PTO works very hard raising money to fund services, programs, and materials that are not covered in the school budget. All of the money raised by the PTO, including membership fees,  stays 100% at our school.

It is *not* mandatory for members to attend meetings or volunteer, but members are very welcome to contribute in a way that works for you! We have general meetings throughout the year. Exact dates and times of our general meetings will always be posted to Facebook and Instagram and in our PTO newsletter.

There are six membership levels for the 2025- 2026 HHS PTO. Please join us today!

Teacher Grant Request Form is now OPEN!  Teachers and Staff... this is for you!  The PTO can award up to $1,200 for a teacher grant each year. Submit on behalf of your classroom, team, club, CTE or organization! Funds are limited so try to get your requests in early.  Please email Angela Alvarado with any questions you may have. Ms. Schumacher and Mr. Idlebird are hosting a meeting for parents on September 23, 2025 at 6 pm in the Performance Hall.  This is only for senior parents!

Council Member Kamin’s $40,000 safe crossing project at the intersection of 13th and Yale (going across Yale) is now under construction! Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons will assist pedestrians crossing Yale St and increase safety for the students and parents walking to Love Elementary, Heights High School, and the International Preschool, and many other community spaces such as the Heights Neighborhood Library and the Historic Heights Fire Station. 

You may have already seen construction in the area, and we apologize you were not notified sooner. Unfortunately, Houston Public Works did not provide our office a construction notice prior to work commencing. District C staff will continue to follow up with city staff to ensure that we have the most up-to-date timeline and information for the project.
