A message from Ms. Hampton 05.29.25

6/3/2024 4:45 pm

Good afternoon Bulldog Families,

More records have been broken at Heights High School since my last email.  As of yesterday, 97% of the class of 2025 has met the criteria of College, Career, or Military Ready as defined by TEA.  This means they have scored well on either AP or IB exams; qualified for 3 hours of college credit in ELA or Math or 9 hours combined in other subjects; met minimum SAT, ACT, or TSIA requirements in ELA/Math; received a minimum of 2 course credits and received an industry based certification in their career pathway; or complete both Texas College Bridge Courses in ELA and Math.  This is up from 88% for the class of 2024 and 71% from the class of 2023.  It has been a combined effort and I am super proud of our students, teachers, and the campus leaders that contributed to the class of 2025 success!  Also, did you know that HHS has a girls’ Flag Football Team?  Did you know that they won the first ever HISD District Championship playing at NRG stadium a couple of weeks ago?  Our very own Coach Idlebird is the Houston Texans’ Flag Football Coach of the year for the state of Texas.  Congratulations to the girls and Coach Idlebird on an incredibly successful inaugural season!

A few announcements:

Final Exams:  9th - 11th grade students will begin taking final exam tomorrow.  Tomorrow they will take first and fifth period exams.  Even if students exempted a class, they still need to attend school.  If they are marked absent, it could exceed the 3 absences which will trigger an NG for the class.  If it triggers an NG, students will have to go through the attendance appeals process.  Students can study for other exams, work on other assignments, read etc. while the exam is taking place.  I know that doesn’t make for an exciting time, but we want to make sure students don’t lose credit for their classes.  Exams will continue next week.

No Backpacks beginning tomorrow:  Students do not need to bring back packs to school after today.  All Laptops should be turned in.  Students are taking exams so other than a pencil and paper, they shouldn’t need any other supplies.  Please leave back packs at home.  If they bring back packs, they will be tagged and taken to the grade level office.  Students can pick them up at the beginning of the day.

Mischievous Behavior:  It’s definitely the end of the year.  The Orbi guns have once again surfaced…the ones that have little gel pellets that students like to freeze and then shoot at each other or cars.  This has become very problematic and has caused at least one fight.  Students were informed today that if they have them on campus or in the parking lot, they will go to ISS or OSS for the remainder of the year.

Chromebooks:  All chromebooks should have been turned in.  Parents, you will receive an email by tomorrow if your student has not turned in their chromebook.  Please help your student remember to turn it in.

SENIOR FAMILIES:
Thanks to the families that helped with the senior breakfast this morning.  It was great to see the kids having a good time, signing year books, and just enjoying being together for the last few days of school.

SENIOR ATTENDANCE:  I know that most of our seniors have completed graduation requirements.  However, attendance still counts.  Students who did not have an NG on Tuesday, have an NG now because they aren’t coming to school or aren’t where they need to be for attendance purposes.  I will be sending another email this afternoon to parents of all students that have not finished attendance appeals.  I will be talking to all seniors tomorrow who have not finished attendance appeals.  If your student has an NG for a class that is needed for graduation, they will NOT be able to graduate unless they finish the attendance appeal process.  Sometimes kids think we aren’t being serious.  This isn’t about ADA or campus money.  This is about them being able to graduate.  Please make sure they understand the ramifications for this.
